WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR?
To become a driving instructor, you need to go through a rigorous training and certification process. Here's a brief overview:
Qualifications and Experience Required
- You must be at least 21 years old and have held a full driving license for a minimum of 3 years.
- You need to have a clean driving record with no serious driving convictions.
- Significant experience driving on all types of roads in various conditions is essential.
Training Courses
- You must complete an approved instructor training course which covers teaching methods, lesson planning, risk management, and the rules of the road.
- These courses involve both theory and practical components, including observed teaching sessions.
- Courses typically take around 6-12 months of part-time study to complete.
Exams and Certification
- After your training, you must pass a series of exams administered by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA):
- Theory test on road procedures and instructional ability
- Practical driving test to an extremely high standard

How much Instruction do I need?
Normally, it takes most new drivers about 45 hours of driving lessons with a fully qualified driving instructor and an additional 20 plus hours of driving practice with either friends or family to learn to drive and pass their driving test.
