Guaranteed Part 3 Certified Instructors
All of our approved instructors are part three instructor certified. This guarantees that they have each spent a minimum of 40 hours specialist tuition with a fully accredited driver training instructor. Each of our certified Richmond Surrey  instructors carry their ‘Approved Instructors’ certification badge in their car with them at all times.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR?

​To become a driving instructor, you need to go through a rigorous training and certification process. Here's a brief overview:​

Qualifications and Experience Required
- You must be at least 21 years old and have held a full driving license for a minimum of 3 years.
- You need to have a clean driving record with no serious driving convictions.
- Significant experience driving on all types of roads in various conditions is essential.

Training Courses
- You must complete an approved instructor training course which covers teaching methods, lesson planning, risk management, and the rules of the road.
- These courses involve both theory and practical components, including observed teaching sessions.
- Courses typically take around 6-12 months of part-time study to complete.

Exams and Certification
- After your training, you must pass a series of exams administered by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA):
  - Theory test on road procedures and instructional ability
  - Practical driving test to an extremely high standard 
  - Test of instructional ability in the car with a DVSA examiner

Ongoing Requirements
- Once qualified, you must register as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) and display a badge in your vehicle.
- You need to keep your knowledge and skills up-to-date through continuing professional development courses.
- Your abilities will be periodically assessed through standards checks by the DVSA.

Patience, clear communication skills, and an in-depth understanding of driving techniques and road safety are essential qualities for success as a driving instructor. The training is comprehensive to ensure instructors can effectively teach new drivers the skills for safe, responsible motoring.

How much Instruction do I need?

Normally, it takes most new drivers about 45 hours of driving lessons with a fully qualified driving instructor and an additional 20 plus hours of driving practice with either friends or family to learn to drive and pass their driving test.
